One of the biggest problems with being a travel addict (besides being addicted to travel) is shopping. Yes, my friends, shopping. I absolutely love shopping for clothes, shoes and accessories when I go interstate or overseas and cherish these items as my own personal souvenirs long after I've returned home. There's something ridiculously satisfying about someone asking you where you got your ankle boots, or that woollen dress, and you answering back, nonchalantly, "This thing? Oh, I just picked this up in Paris". Like you do.
And while this may not be any kind of direct problem, per se - who could possibly have a problem with shopping when one loves shopping - but it's more about the by-product from splashing out on retail while you're away (and I'm not talking about your credit card self combusting).
That by-product I'm talking about is excess luggage.
Even when you're traveling business class with two of you, there are times when that extra luggage allowance on the plane is simply not enough. Friends got back from a five week trip in America recently and brought an additional two bags back with them on top of their permitted free baggage allowance. Each.
When I traveled to the UK and Europe last year over the course of their winter, I found myself needing to buy more scarves and bulky clothes than I had bargained for in my suitcases, even with my upgrade-on-points allowance on the way home. Similarly, how could I resist buying all the nice things in San Fran on a trip a few months ago? Sadly, I did need to leave a few old fave pieces behind, including shoes (*gasp*), to make way for the new and avoid having to pay any nasty excess charges at the airport.
The good news is, I just learnt of a service which I thought was worth sharing with my fellow suffering shopaholics. World Baggage is an excess luggage service that is literally saving the day with excess luggage (box, bag or suitcase) sent securely from door-to-door for less than you pay at the airport. There's a simple online booking system, online tracking and easy online payment system and your baggage can be picked up and sent before or after your departure - voila!
The next time I've shopped til I've dropped overseas, this will be one thing I'll be looking at to save me up to 70% less than I would pay at the airport for my heavy bags. After all - it also means I wont have to carry them.
Happy travels and shopping!
I partnered up with World Baggage on this piece to help bring you the good news and save your excess baggage pennies - so you can spend it on more important things, like shoes.
